I’ve only ever done hardware hacks.

For StuyHacks 2015, my friend and I designed two “tanks”, controlled via bluetooth on smartphones. Each tank has three infrared sensors, picking up infrared blasts from other tanks. Each tank has three lives, and stops moving after all three lives have been used up. There is also an optional shield that lasts a couple seconds, and takes several seconds to recharge. The amount of life remaining was indicated by an RGB led (green for 3, yellow for 2, and red for 1), which also turned blue when the shield was activated.

For StuyHacks 2016, my friends and I created the “Airwriter”. This device was designed for teachers, allowing them to write on a board without having to stand right in front of it. You could effectively “write in the air”, hence the name “Airwriter”. Included was a controller that allowed the user to control the color of the pen, the stroke size of the pen, and the background color.
